Hielscher, Margarete (1899–1985)

  • Edzard Ernst

摘要

Margarete Hielscher studied medicine and, in 1930, became a junior physician in the hospital in Stadtroda. There she went on to become the head of the special children’s ward. It has been estimated that 133 children died under her direction. After the war, she remained in the same hospital (which was now in the German Democratic Republic (GDR)) until her retirement in 1965. Even though her actions during the Third Reich were known to the authorities of the GDR, she was never charged.
