Multi-Port Smart Transformers (MPST) can integrate different energy sources, loads, and energy storage systems, optimizing the energy flows between these elements. This makes them an interesting component for the optimal control of energy flows in future Smart grids that integrate renewable energy resources, electric vehicle chargers, prosumers, or energy storage systems. This article presents different operation strategies for the series converters that make up the input stage with the aim of optimizing and extending the operating range of the MPST.
