African American Film Music: Blaxploitation
摘要
Blaxploitation films became a popular and vigorous American film genre in the 1970s. They have had far less scrutiny than might have been expected. Existing writing has focused on depictions of crime, masculinity and cityscapes. Often in passing, a mention is made of music, yet this is one of the key defining aspects of Blaxploitation films. This chapter discusses the way that Blaxploitation films had music that worked in an unconventional manner in comparison with mainstream films, while engaging solidly with African American popular music of the time.
