This chapter explores music-dominated audiovisual space in films, particularly when it comes to landscape and music’s place in the depiction of landscape and sometimes striking enveloping atmosphere in films. The McGurk Effect established that not only are vision and hearing active but also that they merge in a ‘synaesthetic’ manner in human perception. Electronic audiovisual culture can tell us much about human physicality. Artificial space in films, not only the illusory diegesis but also the emotional and cognitive space of music, is a crucial aspect of audiovisual culture, and exploits human perception, making it fit the heart of the physical processes that are our often unacknowledged essence.
