Imprisoned to Be Imprisoned

This chapter explores the intersectional relationship of carceral mindsets and perspectives in education and mental health. Using carcerality as the focus of inquiry, the author links the compliance and demand of White supremacy to the implementation of psychology in clinical and community spaces and educational settings and of the interplay with police. Common mental illness diagnoses that are seen in children who are sentenced to the STPP and to those experiencing increased criminal justice contact are compared in discussion on policy and practice.
