The History of the School-to-Prison Pipeline in Education

  • Richard D. Williams

摘要

This chapter explores the history of carcerality in schools beginning with the introduction of zero-tolerance policies, similarities to the criminal justice carceral state, and behavioral paradigms. The carceral nature of education is the conceptual and sociopolitical structure to the lived phenomena of the school-to-prison pipeline (STPP). The STPP disproportionately impacts Black and minoritized youth by sentencing them to a life of fugitivity from social, political, educational, and other factors of life.
