In this book, a proposal has been made to analyse emojis from a cognitive pragmatics, relevance-theoretic perspective, specifically in Chaps. 2 , 3 , 4 , and 5 . As such, the book addresses typical topics of pragmatic research such as intentionality, the essential role of context, the range of explicit-implicated interpretations, the underdeterminacy thesis (coded discourses said to be less informative than the interpretations sought and inferred from them) and the essential role of non-propositional effects (feelings, emotions), both intended (affective attitude) and inferred (affective effects), in the eventual quality of interactions, all of which have now been applied to everyday emoji use in messaging and broader social media interactions. Several major issues and/or conclusions of this book include:
