As interactive usage of high performance computing (HPC) resources become major, HPC systems require new resource management strategy to support both traditional jobs and interactive usages. Our direction for next generational interactive HPC systems is introduce a job scheduling method both with space-sharing and time-sharing. This paper describes observation and issues of a current production supercomputer when it accepts interactive usages. And then we provide our scheduling model and ongoing work mainly related to choices of preemption methods toward realistic interactive HPC systems.

摘要

As interactive usage of high performance computing (HPC) resources become major, HPC systems require new resource management strategy to support both traditional jobs and interactive usages. Our direction for next generational interactive HPC systems is introduce a job scheduling method both with space-sharing and time-sharing. This paper describes observation and issues of a current production supercomputer when it accepts interactive usages. And then we provide our scheduling model and ongoing work mainly related to choices of preemption methods toward realistic interactive HPC systems.
