After gaining independence in 1962, Algeria was faced with numerous challenges as they began to establish themselves as a nation. These challenges included high unemployment rates, economic instability, and a significant amount of debt. The country had inherited an economic structure and social fabric characterised by exploitative practices and resource extraction during the colonial period. To understand the impact of the colonial heritage, a robust analytical approach was taken. The analysis examined various socio-economic indicators such as GDP growth, debt levels, and unemployment rates. This allowed for a better understanding of how Algeria’s colonial past influenced their current challenges.
