摘要

The current communication sheds light on investigating the possibility of commercialization and conservation of Swertia chirayita. It aims to give comprehensive review of the current understanding of the ecological significance, traditional use, and potential commercial worth of S. chirayita. By analyzing the available literature and highlighting the challenges and possibilities inherent in production of S. chirayita, it hopes to promote sustainable practices that can boost the plant’s agricultural and conservation potential. The only viable option for sustainable utilisation is to engage in commercial cultivation, which will also alleviate the strain on its natural population. However, in order to make the cultivation of this plant cost-effective, it is necessary to develop genetically enhanced variants that have a large biomass and active content. It discusses the challenges of achieving sustainable cultivation of S. chirayita, emphasises the significance of plant conservation, and presents the most recent advancements in crop enhancement research pertaining to this particular species.
