Additive Manufacturing of Sustainable Functional Parts

The utilization of additive manufacturing as a holistic approach might be the Holy Grail of producing reliable parts while having a low negative impact on the surrounding environment. The production process that requires material and equipment selection can now be predesigned to plan what happens to the part after its useful life. This chapter sheds light on the benefits of additive manufacturing processes and how they seamlessly integrate with modern concepts such as Sustainable Development Goals. Since nature is the genesis of additive manufacturing on land and sea, biomimetics is presented. Finally, rapid investment casting (RIC) as a reliable process for converting polymeric parts into more robust metallic ones is discussed.
