Smart Waste Management: Revolutionizing Waste Bank in Bandung (Indonesia)

摘要

Waste management in Indonesia is facing a significant challenge, but new solutions are emerging. This study highlights the role of digital technologies, particularly mobile apps, in transforming waste management. Using Design Thinking (DT), the study develops tailored solutions for the Bank Sampah Hejo Salamina (BSHS) initiative in Bandung. Innovations include a mobile app with Artificial Intelligence (AI) for accurate waste sorting, an easy-to-use data input feature for streamlined operations, and digital payment services to incentivize proper waste disposal. These tools address key problems like poor waste sorting and communication issues. This study aims to dramatically improve BSHS performance, reduce manpower dependence, and increase overall waste management efficiency. Beyond operational benefits, these digital tools support sustainable development goals, environmental sustainability, and public health in Bandung. This study underscores DT's potential to foster innovation and solve environmental challenges. As Bandung advances, its future becomes increasingly linked with technology, setting a strong example for other cities worldwide to pursue a greener tomorrow. Further research is necessary to expand digital support and continue improving waste management.
