Beyond Borders: India’s Path to Sustainable Development Goals and Global Comparisons

The UN initiated the sustainable development goals in 2016 to target global issues under 17 goals. The goals focused on major issues like poverty, gender equality, health, climate, etc. The paper delves into understanding and analysing if the current status of countries in attaining these goals is at par with the UN’s 2030 target. Further, the paper measures India’s position in achieving these goals and provides insights into the challenges and feasible solutions. The paper is based on secondary data analysis and an extensive literature review. Data has been accumulated from the SDG index and different published reports. The countries are divided into regions based on the challenges, and goals achieved. The study’s finding is depicted using the graphical method to provide clear distinction among the countries facing significant challenges, major challenges, and goals achieved for each SDGs. Further, India’s current attainment of all the 17 SDGs shows a progressive trend for 9 SDGs, 2 SDGs goals are attained but gender equality, health, and clean energy require more interventions. There is interlinkage between the attainment of the goals and investment across sectors which requires private–public partnership, and government policies for advancing the SDGs attainment globally.
