Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann

Werner Faymann exercised leadership behaviour in the financial and debt crisis and in the migration crisis. Since national factors constrained his choice of leadership style, he used a cooperative affiliative leadership style aimed at eliminating disagreement in the financial and debt crisis, which allowed him to play a balancing role. In the migration crisis, he used a visionary leadership style, with a focus on ensuring good conditions for incoming migrants, which did not work well nationally, nor in the European Council.
