Theoretical and Methodological Foundations

Building on the theory of constitutive effects, organisational theory and its logics of social action, Goleman’s leadership style framework and current EU leadership literature, this chapter provides an overview of the main mechanisms at work in the study of leadership behaviour at the national level and in the European Council. It also clarifies the choice of five case studies, the focus period and its crisis contexts, and the origin of empirical data.
