C4—Hemimandibular, Hemimaxillary, Hemifacial Asymmetry

Growth surplus or/and growth deficits always pose great challenges to the diagnostician. Especially in individuals before definitive growth completion, any growth still present must be differentiated from autonomous, uncontrollable growth prior to any surgical intervention. Occasionally, this requires the use of specific imaging techniques to visualize growth activity (SPECT-CT). This applies particularly to patients with size differences in the condylar process area. In case of doubt, it is even advisable to exhibit treatments in order to be able to determine a definite end of growth before orthognathic correction of the facial asymmetry can be performed. The upcoming surgical corrections depend on the degree of asymmetry and can occasionally be performed as single jaw surgery, but usually bimaxillary. Correction of the center of the chin is often necessary to obtain a symmetrical facial impression.
