Probation Services in Europe and Suicide

Suicide in probation across Europe is rarely recorded, although there are some exceptions to this general rule which are described. As Chapter 2 has detailed, however, probation suicides take place at a much higher rate than in the general population, especially in the four-week period after being released from prison. Some risk factors for suicide in probation are explored. The ideation-to-action model is drawn on to integrate these risk factors and research is proposed to test the model.
