Alcoholics Anonymous, SMART Recovery, and Other Support Systems for Alcohol Recovery
摘要
Alcohol Use Disorder is a prevalent chronic condition with profound implications across psychological, societal, and medical domains. Given the complexity of alcohol use, dependency, and maladaptive behaviors, effectively addressing alcohol misuse requires a multifaceted approach encompassing both pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, including destigmatization efforts, awareness campaigns, and robust community support. This chapter explores the landscape of established community support systems, focusing on Mutual Aid Organizations and Peer Recovery Specialists. The former can be broadly categorized into Twelve Step, Secular Non-Twelve Step, and Religious Organizations, such as Alcoholics Anonymous, SMART Recovery, and Moderation Management. While the various modalities draw from behavioral therapeutic principles, they vary in their objectives, membership criteria, governance structures, and recovery framework.
