The Impact of Language Complexity on Consumer Comprehension and Retention

  • Mohammed Al-Badawi

摘要

In this study, the changing space of linguistic complexity in marketing and advertising will be explored with a special emphasis on its influence on consumers’ recollection and understanding of the message. This study is conducted from the multidisciplinary perspective of linguistic theory, cognitive psychology, and marketing analysis. The changing pattern from simple to complex language construction will be investigated by this approach. With the help of theories like the Attention Constructing Model and Encoding Specificity Principle, the research investigates the linguistic style’s ability to keep attention, spread comprehension, and encourage the encoding process among consumers. Using a case study on UK election marketing as well as quantitative analysis approaches, it was found that there are subtle connections between linguistic complexity, audience attention, and message retention. It was found that complex language may attract attention but may not be understood, while simpler messages tend to stay in the memory longer.
