Kinship Terms Treatment in English and Arabic Dictionaries
摘要
Examination of kinship terms as semantic systems within a theoretical framework, which establishes connections between terminological groups and “kinship or blood relationship.” The objective is to investigate the variations in the patterns of these terms across diverse kinship structures. Employing the descriptive semantics technique referred to as “component analysis,” we aim to uncover disparities by extensively studying kinship terms from two distinct dictionaries. Furthermore, we aim to explore the differences in the nature of kinship terminology patterns while considering the overarching framework of all kinship structures. This study brings to light the challenge of defining relatives, as the interpretation of this term varies across languages and cultures within dictionaries.
