The Intrusion on Social Media Users’ Privacy: Challenges and Negative Impacts

The purpose of this research is to gain insight into social media channels and discern the issues that their users deal with on a regular basis and determine viable solutions. Based on an analytical-interpretive method, this study examines the problem of privacy violations in the behavior of social media users, resulting in unconstructive outcomes. Additionally, the research studies how the networks had affected communities in the Arabic and Islamic world, drawing attention to the priority for appropriate control mechanisms to be developed so as not to jeopardize these platforms which serve as means of communication. The recommendations based on the conclusion of the study are that regulations should be in place for social media and internet platforms, which would contribute their maximum value and prevent any possible risks. There is nothing less important for this purpose than to establish a department where citizens could send a complaint about the use of their personal data without consent for advertising or other purposes. In addition, according to the findings of the research, it is found that specialized courts should be created in order to protect users from informational damage, which is caused by confidentiality violations. Cases concerning information technology need to be adjudicated in these courts that should have some judges who have knowledge about the same. Finally, this study stresses that including information privacy in compulsory curricula of the Arab law and police colleges must not be underestimated.
