The Importance of Global Advocacy for Human Rights in Protecting Women’s Rights

摘要

This study examines the evolution of global commitments to protecting Women’s Rights (WRs), in which international human rights and support organizations have played a significant role. By focusing on women at the global level, it explores the factors that lead to violations of WRs, the impact of relationships between international and domestic stakeholders, and the impact of international human rights on the strategies of women's organizations around the world. In the past, WRs were protected by the state, but unfortunately, many women suffered violence from the state. To overcome these incidents, women are using a human rights framework to address the inequalities caused by the abuse of power. As a result, women began to participate in human rights organizations and use their voices for advocacy. Therefore, we assume that there is no clear distinction between WRs and human rights. Today, the role of human rights in protecting women around the world has become increasingly important. As a methodological framework, we conducted a qualitative review of literature and cases on the quality and effectiveness of global advocacy, particularly for younger generations such as university students. We conclude that global advocacy plays an important role in protecting WRs, building political will and advancing agendas. Despite several international agreements respecting WRs, such as the Act on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), in practice the legal framework remains intrusive. In terms of global advocacy, there is still much work to be done to ensure WRs and gender equality around the world.
