The Metaphor and Metonymy in Figurative Language
摘要
People often criticize online content for distorting the truth in order to promote certain agendas. These complaints can question the credibility of a story or critique the way it is presented, including the choice of language used. Arguments that are driven by specific goals stem from particular beliefs, and although language can be used manipulatively, it is also a means of communication and a tool for presenting and shaping arguments. Language that is geared towards specific targets often makes use of metonymy and metaphor, providing a captivating insight into the complexities of such discussions. We have chosen to conduct a descriptive and qualitative investigation that explores the use of literary devices, specifically metaphor and metonymy, in delivering targeted language. Our objective is to provide a comprehensive critical analysis that brings attention to the significant issues surrounding the importance of these figurative devices. Through our insightful evaluation, we aim to demonstrate that metaphor and metonymy can effectively express the beliefs held by those who employ them. By examining various instances of metaphor and metonymy, we have determined that these devices have the unique ability to creatively reflect the viewpoints of their creators, thereby making their arguments convincing and easily embraced by others.
