A Glimpse into Audiovisual Translation: Subtitling as a Case Study
摘要
Audiovisual translation is a branch of Translation Studies devoted to converting challenging, multimedia texts into new linguistic and cultural contexts. One technique, subtitling, involves writing short snippets of text that overlay visual media and appear at the bottom of the frame. Our examination will center on a descriptive-qualitative approach to shed light on the far-reaching significance of audiovisual translation. Providing insight from all angles, we strive to conduct an in-depth analysis that critically exposes crucial subtitling concerns. With a keen eye, we emphasize the significance of this topic. Ultimately, our research upholds the importance of subtitling, specifically its respect for the original text's artistic integrity. Additionally, we note that subtitles give viewers exposure to foreign languages, often inciting curiosity towards different cultures among target audiences.
