Training Programs for Community Interpreting

“Community interpreting” is the term used for interpretation in the public sector that bridges the gap between laypeople and officials. Its applications are diverse and includes departments, such as police, immigration, medical, schools, and welfare centers. From being solely handled by inexperienced volunteers and acquaintances, community interpreting has developed into a full-fledged career. Consequently, the goals of community interpreter training have evolved to be extensive in scope, aiming for various improvements. The enhancement of language accuracy is a widespread objective, leading students to master linguistic grammar and syntax. Through a critical lens, this qualitative research approach aims to thoroughly explore the realm of community interpreting. In order to provide necessary services to various linguistic communities and facilitate efficient communication, community interpreting plays a crucial role. Of course, interpreting in varying contexts, such as legal or healthcare settings, only adds to the complexity of the task at hand. As our society continues to become increasingly multicultural and multilingual, the demand for trained interpreters will undoubtedly increase.
