Mathematics, Architecture and Mechanics in the School of François D’Aguilon and Grégoire De Saint-Vincent

TheSaint-Vincent, Grégoire de establishment of the Jesuits Flemish and French Belgium in the seventeenth century was often accompanied by the building of churches and colleges, and in many cases Jesuit mathematicians were often the designers of the architecture. This chapter follows the Jesuits in their roles of scientists and architects, showing the connections between disciplines, the not always easy dynamics between the leading figures, and their relationship to Jesuit overseers in Rome.
