Reading Approach in L2 Learning Techniques for Adult Migrants
摘要
Reading in a foreign language facilitates the assimilation of linguistic resources in an authentic and meaningful communication situation and becomes a bilingual process, which also activates the mother tongue, integrating skills and competences specific to the native language. Adult readers engage in a metacognitive process to identify and reduce comprehension difficulties and rely on long-term memory to interpret text successfully. This chapter emphasizes that short literary texts in the study of a foreign language are the main resources that reflect new cultural values. Exposure to L2 learning skills represents adult migrants’ exposure to a new and unknown world. Thus, it is imperative for adult migrants to acquire sufficient skills, knowledge and attitudes that enable them to integrate faster into a new society and react appropriately in various sociocultural contexts.
