Macular hole occurs when a circular opening forms in the macula. Idiopathic macular holes (IMHs) are the most common presentation of this condition accounting for 83% of cases. Age plays a role as individuals between the age of 60 and 80 are affected most. Vitrectomy is the best way to treat a macular hole. Other novel options are on the horizon.
