Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a rare ocular tumor that constitutes less than 1% of all ocular malignancies. It is the most common subtype of ocular malignancies, particularly conjunctival SCC. Risk factors for SCC include fair skin, prolonged UV light exposure, immunosuppression, human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, and a history of skin cancer. This case report describes a 51-year-old Hispanic male with a slowly growing eyelid lesion. The lesion exhibited suspicious characteristics, leading to a presumed diagnosis of SCC. The patient was referred for excision and biopsy, which confirmed the diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma. Treatment options for SCC depend on the risk level of the malignant growth and may involve surgical excision, cryotherapy, Mohs micrographic surgery, photodynamic therapy, radiotherapy, or brachytherapy. Early detection and intervention are crucial to prevent the progression and potential metastasis of SCC.
