Traditionally, interpretation refers to human processing. This book aims to show that this concept can be applied more broadly. The connection between structural properties of the model of meaningful processing of this book on the one hand and fundamental natural phenomena, spherical waves, on the other, suggests that all of nature must be capable of interpretation: knowledge must be inevitable. What effect might this conclusion have on the ongoing technological revolution? While traditional artificial intelligence does not impose conditions on computational realization, in other words, it can use any program, we argue that meaningful processing can be based on one type of process. The ultimate goal of a human-like thinking computer can be achieved by using the classes of sign relations as data types (and specifying knowledge in terms of the categories) and using the dependencies between the classes of sign relations to model information processing as a procedure.
