Introduction

In the book series Palgrave Studies in Otherness and Communication, this volume explores a series of unusual and less predictable modes of communicating and of reinventing alterities, by illustrating a scope of possibilities, ranging from power, material, and symbolic differences among humans, to differences based upon the posthumanist critical paradigm, contrary to the idea of the modern subject and of the anthropocentric vision of the universe. This implies an approach, sometimes bold and hopefully decentered, to the various nonhuman alterities of entities such as plants, rivers, digital and technological environments, morphological, objectual, and spatial forms. This volume, titled Communicating Human and Nonhuman Otherness, contains chapters by an international group of academics, both as artists and as researchers, addressing the fields of posthumanist studies, arts, and literature.
