Participation of the Slovak Republic in Fulfilling Geostrategic Interests of the EU: The Example of Ukraine
摘要
This chapter analyses Slovakia’s approach to Ukraine following the Russian invasion in February 2022, focusing on the country’s foreign, social, security and economic interests in alignment with EU policies. It examines Slovakia’s strategies for supporting Ukraine amidst Russian aggression, highlighting the country’s political, humanitarian, economic and military aid. The study underscores Slovakia’s vital interest in maintaining Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity to ensure regional stability. Additionally, it addresses the challenges posed by political radicalisation and extremist influences within Slovakia, which threaten to undermine its foreign policy and diplomatic efforts. The analysis concludes with a call for Slovakia to maintain strategic frameworks in foreign policy and security, emphasising the importance of cooperation with the EU, NATO and the United States, and involvement in Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction.
