Alzheimer’s disease (AD) accounts for up to 70% of all documented dementia. Over the span of the preceding two decades, considerable financial resources have been allocated to advancing research endeavors aimed at elucidating the pathophysiological underpinnings of AD, implementing preventative measures, refining methods for early detection and diagnosis, and impeding the progression of this debilitating illness. This chapter introduces recent discoveries regarding the pathophysiology of AD, alongside its revised classification framework. Furthermore, it illuminates the diverse neurocognitive manifestations inherent to AD and delves into innovative methodologies poised to augment early diagnostic capabilities and facilitate ongoing monitoring of disease progression along the AD continuum.
