Mental health problems are known to arise from the intricate interplay between an individual’s genetic profile and environmental influences. Functional genomics involves the integration of multiple approaches to identify the mechanisms regulating gene expression and can improve the detection of vulnerable individuals to the effects of early adversity exposure. This chapter revisits the concept of functional genomics and explores innovative techniques across different levels of gene regulation. The application of these functional genomics tools to improve polygenic risk score predictions and detect gene-environment interactions in the psychiatric field is discussed.

摘要

Mental health problems are known to arise from the intricate interplay between an individual’s genetic profile and environmental influences. Functional genomics involves the integration of multiple approaches to identify the mechanisms regulating gene expression and can improve the detection of vulnerable individuals to the effects of early adversity exposure. This chapter revisits the concept of functional genomics and explores innovative techniques across different levels of gene regulation. The application of these functional genomics tools to improve polygenic risk score predictions and detect gene-environment interactions in the psychiatric field is discussed.
