Functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs) define as an abnormal functioning of gastrointestinal tract. It involves group of conditions results in symptoms like bloating, abdominal pain, discomfort, and changes in bowel habits but without any distinguishable structural or biochemical anomalies. These conditions can meaningfully impact a person’s quality of life and often require careful management and sometimes multidisciplinary approaches involving dietary changes, stress management, and medications to alleviate symptoms. Examples of FGIDs include irritable bowel syndrome, functional constipation, and functional dyspepsia. Patients with FGIDs may feel stigmatized, and physicians frequently fail to effectively communicate the diagnosis. These conditions lead to unnecessary consultations, surgeries, prescription, and over-the-counter medication use, which impairs the psychological health and quality of life of people.
