Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD) is due to an in-frame mutation in the dystrophin gene leading to a partial but functional protein. There is ample evidence that dystrophin plays a critical role in brain development and functioning, especially in relation to cognitive aspects and executive functions. It is known that neuropsychological aspects can affect behavior and emotional-behavioral profile. An extensive knowledge of this neuromuscular condition enables a comprehensive management (evaluation, intervention, and rehabilitation) leading the scientific community to take a holistic approach to BMD.
