The incidence of depression in individuals with renal disease varies depending on the stage, with rates as high as 76.5% observed in transplant patients. This chapter explores the extensive diagnostic methods that incorporate clinical interviews and proven screening instruments to identify the overlap between depressed symptoms and signs of renal failure. The symptoms include emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and physiological elements, which collectively lead to a reduced quality of life. The influence of depression on health-related quality of life (HRQOL) is substantial, since reduced levels of anxiety and depression are linked to enhanced HRQOL. Interventions, such as exercise programs and adaptive coping strategies, demonstrate potential in improving health-related quality of life (HRQOL). The COVID-19 pandemic has heightened stress factors, impacting the degree of depression and the health-related quality of life related to mental health.
