Sismika: Designing a Seismic Event Interactive Map for Seismic Awareness and Preparedness

This research paper introduces Sismika, a pioneering mobile-first visualizer application tailored for the Filipino populace to access both real-time and historical data on seismic events. Situated in one of the world’s most seismically active regions, the Philippines’ need for comprehensive seismic data interpretation and public preparedness is critical. Sismika offers an innovative solution by integrating data from PHIVOLCS with an interactive, user-friendly interface, enhancing both public awareness and resilience against earthquakes. This paper presents the design and development of Sismika, its architectural components, and a comparative analysis with existing tools, demonstrating its enhanced capabilities and utility. The findings underscore the application’s potential to significantly improve seismic preparedness and awareness through technological innovation.
