eBoto 2.0: A Novel Receipt-Free Voting System

The new eBoto is a receipt-free voting system that achieves receipt-freeness through decoy ballots and is loosely based on the old eBoto[5], which was a generic Ethereum-based internet voting system that lacked receipt-freeness. Decoy ballots have been used before in [12] as a means of deterring vote-buying, but they were not explicitly used to confer receipt-freeness. The novelty of the new eBoto is in the formal receipt-freeness achieved through decoy ballots and proven through the formalism in [11]. The new eBoto inherits some basic election structure and concepts from the old eBoto, such as the division between election authority and voter, the use of a smart contract backend, and the use of a web app frontend, but adds new features like decoy markers that are used to create decoy ballots, proper encryption, responsive design, and off-chain entities like the authority daemon and isolator. These features are mostly added in order to achieve receipt-freeness, but some new features are meant to confer other desirable properties of an internet voting system, including but not limited to usability on a smartphone, voter anonymity, and voter privacy.
