Evidence on Dividend Preferences Attention and IPO Valuation Retail Investor SPSS Statistics
摘要
Retail investors—individuals trading shares, mutual funds, or ETFs—play a vital role in the equity market, with unique behaviors and impacts on IPO valuations. In India, they are defined under the SEBI Act as investors applying for securities in an IPO up to Rs 2,00,000. Unlike their institutional counterparts, these investors often make investment decisions that can lead to significant price differentials in the market. This study examines how retail investors’ dividend preferences affect IPO valuations using SPSS Statistics. Our findings reveal that securities favored by retail investors command higher prices, especially when they offer higher yield-to-maturity and face limited supply. The study also discusses the potential for sharp value declines in the event of negative demand shocks. The reliability of our model is quantified by a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.712, indicating 71% reliability, slightly below the 82% threshold often cited in literature as suitable for analysis.
