IoT Overview: Exploring the Adoption and Challenges in the Philippine Landscape

摘要

The worldwide adaptation of Internet of things is growing. It provides a wide range of applications using the internet that make human lives easy and comfortable. Global companies are now offering IoT solutions and services to provide for businesses and for residential use. The trend in installation of IoT devices and its global market share is growing alongside other emerging technologies. For a developing country like the Philippines, government and private sectors has the initiative and roadmaps established that aims to fully adapt the utilization and applications of IoT. This study is to present an overview on the existing condition and current state of the implementation of IoT in the Philippines, as well as examining the different trends, applications and factors affecting the development of the technology in the country. Challenges in the implementation were analyzed to produce different policy recommendations that would help adopt IoT. Benefits of IoT in different sectors of the community such as industrial, educational, healthcare and business were discussed. Different challenges such as cost and resources, regulatory support, privacy and security, and technological complexity were still to be overcome to fully adopt the implementation of IoT.
