A Review of the Effectiveness and Utility of Digital Resources in Anatomical Education
摘要
Anatomical education is facing a shift in the resources used to educate medical students as technological advancement and restrictions in time and lab resources are becoming more evident. This chapter explores the effectiveness and utility of digital resources in anatomical education by introducing literature that evaluates the impact on learning and perception of the resources. Firstly, a brief discussion of the need and main drivers for different digital resources in anatomical education is introduced. Secondly, definitions and classifications of digital resource types are given, outlining some platforms or media that are used for each type. Thirdly, a description of the ways digital resources can impact the student experience and benefit educators is provided. An account of the evidence base surrounding the types of learning resources, with a focus on impact on learning, is given. This aims to introduce the reader to the literature surrounding the use of digital resources and provide an evidence-based rationale for development in anatomical education. Finally, a summary of the key findings that can inform educational practice in using digital resources in anatomical education is discussed.
