Agents as a Design Paradigm for Robotic Systems Leveraging ROS and Gazebo

The integration of ROS (Robot Operating System) and Gazebo as a simulator is becoming increasingly vital in the field of robotic system design and development. Like any complex software, robotic software development requires disciplined processes to ensure efficiency and robustness. Despite the potent capabilities of ROS and Gazebo, current methodologies for developing robotic systems often omit a dedicated design phase, leading to the absence of a structured design process. This oversight can undermine the potential for developing sophisticated and reliable systems. In this paper, we argue for the adoption of the agent-based design paradigm as a systematic approach to robotic development. By employing this paradigm, we aim to leverage the modular and flexible architecture inherent in agent-based models, enhancing the capabilities of ROS and Gazebo.
