Self-sovereign Identity Management System Using Verifiable Credentials to Enhance Privacy and Security Through Zero Knowledge Proofs

The increase in the use of the Internet has introduced various concepts like Digital Identities, which are unique digital representations of a subject in the form of attributes. These attributes are used to access digital services. The way identities can be classified has evolved over the past years and now we are in the era of Self-Sovereign Identity which essentially aims to give users power over how their information is shared. However, this concept is still at its emerging stage and yet it is transforming various sectors. This paper aims to contribute to the body of knowledge by designing and implementing a self-sovereign based digital identity management system utilizing Distributed Ledger Technologies, Verifiable Credentials etc. The system supports Zero Knowledge Proofs to implement the “least privilege access” security principle.
