Low-Tech Methods for Rainwater Quality Analysis and Perspective Usage of Mobile Phone as a Diagnostic Tool

摘要

The rainwater harvesting system comprises a runoff, filtering, and storage tank. On this basis, there are two types of rainwater systems: surface runoff harvesting and groundwater recharge systems. In surface runoff harvesting, the rainwater flows away as surface runoff and can be stored for future use. The ground water system is a hydrologic recharge process where water moves downward from surface to ground water. This paper seeks to explore a review of low-tech rainwater harvesting system design in sub-Saharan Africa. The low-tech rainwater system design could be very attractive in terms of cost. In low-tech framework, the mobile phone could be beneficial in the water sanitation system. The development of a new sensor and its coupling to a mobile phone in water sanitation analysis is paramount for low income communities. The choice of the mobile itself was a challenge due to the low income of the end users. Therefore, the lowtech approach design of the sensor was explored in the proposition of measuring water quality parameters available in the current literature and the proposition of using a light meter application as a spectro-photometer. This approach appeared to be a non-efficient water analysis method, but convenient, regarding low-income assumption for the end users. The reuse of some recycling components on mobile telephone was also constrained to the type of device and its class.
