Secure Key Generation from Challenge-Response Pair Mechanisms with Commercial MRAM PUFs

摘要

Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs) eliminate the need to store keys, offering a secure alternative for cryptographic operations. This paper delves into the utilization of commercially available Magnetic Random Access Memory (MRAM) devices as PUFs for key generation, presenting a comprehensive protocol pairing randomly selected pairs of cells from two distinct MRAM PUFs. Additionally, the proposed protocol generates cryptographic key pairs from the responses of the MRAM PUFs to enhance the security of Post Quantum Cryptographic (PQC) algorithms. The experimentation presented involves testing MRAM devices across varying temperatures to assess reliability and resilience. The results showcases the robustness of the proposed PUF, featuring a wide range ( \(\ge 10^{1849}\) ) of challenge-response pairs (CRPs), small bit error rates (10 \(^{-8}\) ), negligible false acceptance and rejection rates, a low failure rate (10 \(^{-8}\) ) and low latency of 100 milliseconds.
