Enabling Decentralized Applications in Disconnected Environments: An Ad-hoc Blockchain on a Wireless Mesh Network

This paper proposes a groundbreaking method for establishing an ad-hoc blockchain network using a wireless mesh network. This innovative approach overcomes the limitations of traditional blockchain infrastructure, enabling its functionality even in geographically isolated areas or regions with limited infrastructure. This breakthrough opens up a wide array of exciting applications: Telecommunication and Financial Services: Providing essential infrastructure for telecommunication and financial services in developing regions, Local Payment Systems: Facilitating secure and transparent local payment systems within communities, Community Asset Management, Enabling secure and transparent management of shared assets within small communities, Disaster Response: Establishing emergency communication networks during natural disasters or other critical situations, Event Management: Streamlining efficient information management at events and exhibition venues, Secure Data Sharing: Providing secure data sharing and access control within factories, offices, and other organizations, Military Applications: Supporting secure communication and data management for military operations, Disconnected Activities: Enabling secure and reliable communication for outdoor activities beyond traditional network coverage. As for the performance evaluation, a comprehensive simulation study involving 25 nodes and 4 initiators demonstrates the viability of the proposed method, even with mobile user nodes within the network’s coverage area. The study reveals variations in packet transmission speed (1–18 Mbps), depending on factors such as node movement direction, speed, and distance.
