A Proposal for a Sustainable and Smart Mobility Maturity Model Based on Smart City Maturity Models

A fundamental component of the overall smart city vision is the concept of sustainable and intelligent mobility, which aims to create more efficient, environmentally friendly, and livable urban spaces. As cities are constantly evolving, it is crucial to determine their maturity. The literature presents various smart city maturity models that emphasize different approaches, where innovative technologies and active public participation play key roles. Most smart city maturity models encompass five levels of maturity and identify various dimensions, such as economy, technology, data, environment, education, and mobility or transportation. However, there is a noticeable gap in the literature regarding a maturity model specifically focused on the concept of smart and sustainable mobility. The purpose of this study is to propose a maturity model for sustainable and smart urban mobility. This paper reviews the existing literature on smart city maturity models and then presents the author’s conception of a maturity model for smart and sustainable mobility. This proposed model consists of five levels of maturity and incorporates technological, ecological, social, and economic dimensions, as well as two horizontal dimensions of involvement and social acceptance, and the interaction of ICT solutions. Subsequently, the analysis of the model is discussed, enabling the comparison of cities’ development levels.
