The fusion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data has catalyzed innovation across industries, but it also necessitates addressing environmental impact and ensuring sustainable practices. Sustainable AI and Big Data entail minimizing ecological footprint while maximizing societal benefit. This paper explores critical considerations for sustainability, including energy efficiency, data centre sustainability, algorithmic efficiency, and ethical data usage. Real-world case studies and best practices highlight effective strategies. Leveraging AI and Big Data for sustainability offers opportunities in climate action, renewable energy, conservation, and urban planning. Assessing social and environmental impact and alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are essential. Collaboration and standardized frameworks are pivotal for fostering sustainable practices in AI, driving a positive impact towards a sustainable future. This paper aims to fill the research gap by addressing the complex challenges and opportunities associated with sustainable practices in AI and big data.
