Introduction: A Definitional Preamble

As its title indicates, this study deals with the ethics of artificial intelligences in healthcare. However, there are various ways in which the terms “artificial intelligence”, “healthcare” or “ethics” may be understood. This first chapter, therefore, is devoted to outlining how they will be used in the chapters that follow and why they will be used in that way. Moreover, since there is a variety of ethical theories or approaches, it also indicates which one of these will be used in the analysis that is presented in the subsequent chapters, and why this approach is adopted.
